Though she was originally born in Portland and her family stayed for the first few years of her life in Boring. There they owned the farm of honey despite her allergy to bees. Following the divorce of her parents, they moved from Montana to Seattle where they stayed for a short time because her mom kept shifting jobs. They moved to Minnesota where Maria was a student at Apple Valley High School and was a part of the award-winning forensics program and the National Forensic League. In high school, she was highly regarded and even was elected the queen of Homecoming. Early beginnings and career After being accepted to the Juilliard School in New York where she studied acting. where she lived her lifelong dream was to be part of the stage of a Broadway musical. Amy Sedaris who is also known for her work as an actress, noticed her while she was acting in a show, and she said that she'd like to create a special role for her in her play named Strangers with Candy. Maria made her debut with this part that was performed by an innocent teenager, who later became very close to the former convict and prostitute. In the following years, she played minor roles in several comedy films, including Accepted and Forgetting Sarah Marshall before in 2005 appearing in the movie Hitch along alongside Will Smith and Eva Mendes.
